What is PIXARATHON?

Watch the YouTube link below where the host Lily explains how everything works!

Let's get started on my book picks!

PROMPTS

1. Toy Story is all about fun, friendship and children's toys. Read a middle grade book.

  • For this prompt I have chosen to read Matilda by Roald Dahl. I think everyone can remember reading this at a young age, it's a classic children's book. I haven't read it since I was young so I'm excited to start this.

2. In A Bug's Life Flick saves the day with one of his inventions. Read a book featuring inventions or an inventor.

  • I really struggled to find anything for this prompt but I finally found something of interest. Girls Think of Everything : Stories of Ingenious Inventions by Women by Catherine Thimmesh and illustrated by Melissa Sweet. That was a mouthful. I would like to read this as I'm a feminist and would love to hear about the amazing things that the women in this book have accomplished.

3. To power Monstropolis you need scream power. Read a book that will scare you.

  • I picked Sweeney Todd : The Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Anonymous. I'm not convinced any book can truly scare me but this seems like a good place to start. This book is a classic and has lived on throughout the years unclaimed, it is now notorious. Regarding the scary part, it's about pies made out of humans so that seems pretty ominous.

4. In Finding Nemo, Dory finds a new family for herself in Marlin and Nemo. Read a book featuring found families.

  • For found families I will be reading Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero. This book just speaks to me to be honest. Teen detectives fighting real monsters? amazing. It seems like a true found family situation between these friends, can't wait to read.

5. Even though superheroes are banned, the Parr family still try to save the day. Read a book about fighting for good.

(currently reading this one as I write this)

  • I chose The Book Thief by Markus Zusak for this. I think it is quite a subtle form of fighting for good. The Book Thief involves one particular individual who refuses to believe in nazi propaganda, she wants to fight for the jews, not against them.

6. Lightning McQueen is on his way to fame and fortune. Read a book featuring celebrities or fame.

  • I will be reading Famous in Love by Rebecca Serle for this prompt. I was stumped when picking this but then I saw this book online and remembered I used to watch the show, I had no idea it was a book first! So naturally I'm pretty excited for this one. Famous in Love is perfect for the prompt as the main character becomes an overnight celebrity actress.

7. Linguine and Remy are an odd pair in Ratatouille. Read a book about about an unlikely friendship.

  • The boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. I think this book is the perfect fit for this prompt. A friendship between a jew and the son of a nazi in nazi Germany time. An unlikely but beautiful friendship, can't wait to read this novel.

8. In WALL-E earth has been abandoned because it can longer sustain life. Read a novel about a dystopian future.

  • I chose FOUR by Veronica Roth. I've read the previous books in the Divergent series but not the prequel book so I thought I may as well kill two birds with one stone. Divergent is my favourite dystopian book so hopefully FOUR lives up to that.

9. Russell is a ray of sunshine, but Carl is as grumpy as can be in the movie UP. Read a book featuring characters with a grumpy/sunshine dynamic.

  • This is another prompt I struggled to find a book for. I however did find one, Faking Under the Mistletoe by Ashley Shepherd. A quick summary of this book is a sunshine girl trying to convince a grinch about the joys of Christmas. I'm not sure this is 100 percent the book for me but I thought lets give it a go, I may end up loving it, we'll see.

10. In Brave, Merida accidentally gets a curse put on her mother. Read a book featuring an interesting mother/daughter dynamic.

  • I will be reading Darling Rose Gold by Stephanie Wrobel. This book is about a girl who believes she is seriously ill but her mum has been lying to her about her conditions. I believe Stephanie uses some details from the true story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, but the author made it her own.

  1. 11. Joy is just one of the emotions you get to follow in the movie Inside Out. Read a book that will give you all the feels.

  • I have chosen Love, Rosie by Cecilia Ahern. Love, Rosie is such a good film that I thought, why haven't I read the book yet? I can tell this book is gonna give me the feels for sure, when there's possible romance I get invested immediately. I'm so excited to read this.

12. The Good Dinosaur features, you guessed it, dinosaurs, but also cavemen. Read a book that takes place in historical setting.

  • I'm not really a fan of historical novels but for this prompt I picked Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup. This book features a man who is kidnapped and sold into slavery. It is a memoir of the authors horrific time as a slave.

13. Coco celebrates Mexican music, and culture. Read a book by a Latinx author.

  • I found something that is out of my usual reading genre, it sounds quite interesting. It is called Virgin by Analicia Sotelo. It is a book of poems about the author as a young woman.

14. Onward follows two brothers, Ian and Barley, on a quest to break a curse. Read a book with a focus on sibling relationships.

  • This was an easy pick. It's a book I have read before, but not for years, I used to love it. Shadow Forrest by Matt Haig. This book focuses on a brother and sister who lose their parents and are sent away to their strange aunt in another country.

That's all of mine! I hope everyone participating has a good July, happy reading!
