I got back into reading in January of 2020 and didn't see the point in attempting the 2020 popsugar challenge, so I'm very excited to do it this year! The 2021 challenge has such diverse prompts which I am really excited and impressed with. (I will be doing the regular 40 challenge, not the 50) One more thing, this might not be the final list of books, I'm not 100% happy with these pickings but I was struggling to find books relating to the prompts so there's a good chance another POPSUGAR update will be on it's way..

That's all, scroll away! (I inserted some notes for certain books too, okay I'm done for real this time)

A book that's published in 2021

Cool for the Summer by Dahlia Adler

I admit this book does sound a bit cheese but we Stan LGBTQ+ representation!

An Afrofuturist book

An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon

This book is the complete opposite of the genres I go for if I'm honest.

I'm not really looking forward to reading this one, it might be changed, the book and genre don't appeal to me, but I may also love it? So who knows!

A book that has a heart, diamond, club or spade on the cover

Mortal Instruments : City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

This has been in my TBR for a very long time now, I love the show 'Shadowhunters' so i'm hoping to love the book just as much, even more so!

A book by an author who shares your zodiac sign

The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger

A dark academia book

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

A book with a gem, mineral or rock in the title

Darling Rose Gold by Stephanie Wrobel

One I'm very excited for!

A book where a character works at your current or dream job

The Silence by Tim Lebbon

I only picked this book because I am currently unemployed like all the characters within this, I also own The Silence.. so that's a bonus.

A book that has won the Women's Prize for Fiction

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

A book with a family tree

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

A bestseller from the 1990s

American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis

the movie was pretty good, can't wait to read the book!

A book about forgetting

Still Alice by Lisa Genova

A book you have seen on someones bookshelf (in real life, on a zoom call, in a tv show etc)

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I can't recall seeing a bad review for this book!

A locked room mystery

No Exit by Taylor Adams

A book set in a restaurant

Bread & Butter by Michelle Wildgen

Struggled with this prompt to find a book that sounded interesting so this could go either way..

A book with a black and white cover

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

I've been wanting to read this for the longest time!

A book by an Indigenous author

Savage Conversations by Leanne Howe

I wasn't so sure about this one at first, but getting to know more about American history doesn't sound like such a bad idea! I'm British and know nothing about which presidents were good or bad from this far back in time, it will be interesting to read and learn about!

A book that has the same title as a song

How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr

A book about a subject you are passionate about

Women Don't Owe You Pretty by Florence Given

I'm a huge feminist so this book is a ^GIVEN^ (.. kinda funny.. right?) (no? okay)

A book that discusses body positivity

Dumplin' by Julie Murphy

Thought the film was fantastic!

A book found on a Black Lives Matter reading list

Just Mercy : A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson

I watched the movie last year and thought it was the most moving and thought provoking film I have ever seen, it was incredible, I think this is an important one to watch.

I wasn't surprised to see it on a Black Lives Matter reading list because it tells a true story about a wrongfully accused black man, and that is an ongoing problem in the world.

I am very excited to read this. For anyone who wants more of an understanding of the movement, this could be a good place to start.

A genre hybrid

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Great film, I'm hopeful it will be an equally great book.

A book set mostly or entirely outdoors

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

A book with something broken on the cover

Blood Orange by Harriet Tyce

This has been on my bookshelf for soooo long, It's one of those 'Meh' books that everyone owns, the ones that take us forever to get to but we don't really know why.

A book by a Muslim American author

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

Never got round to reading this one when I put it on my TBR a while ago, but I'm ready!

A book that was published anonymously

Blaze by Richard Bachman (Stephen Kings Pseudonym)

Also another book that I own and thought, two birds with one stone.

A book with an oxymoron in the title

Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler

A book about do overs or fresh starts

The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver

This book features a girl who's boyfriend dies and she tries to move on, as if she's starting over, not sure if I was reaching a bit with this prompt but I think it works?

A magical realism book

The Mortal Instruments : City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

A book set in multiple countries

Salt Houses by Hala Alyan

A book set somewhere you'd like to visit in 2021

The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy

This book takes place in Los Angeles and I've always wanted to go there.

A book by a blogger, vlogger, Youtube video creator or other online personality

In the Country We Love by Diane Guerrero

I struggled with this one too, I don't tend to follow a lot of online personalities anymore but I found this particular one by the 'Orange Is the New Black' actor and thought it sounded very moving.

A book who's title starts with Q, X or Z

Q&A by Vikas Swarup

This book's title has since been changed to Slumdog Millionaire due to the film being called that but it is also still called Q&A so I went with it.

I technically bent the rules a little bit because the copy on my bookshelf is called Slumdog Millionaire instead.. (shhhh)

A book featuring three generations (grandparent, parent, child)

A Woman Is No Man by Etaf Rum

A book about a social justice issue

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

This is an obvious social justice issue as the main characters best friend is shot for no reason by a police officer.

A book in a different format than what you normally read (audiobooks, ebooks, graphic novels)

IT by Stephen King

This is one I'm dreading.. which is strange because the IT mini series and film franchise are my absolute favourite Horror.

I have tried to read the book multiple times and couldn't get into it because the chapters are SO long and there's too much detail, I've tried reading it which didn't work, and I've tried listening to the audiobook which also didn't work..

So my plan is to read along with the physical book as I listen to the audiobook.

It's a challenge.. the book is around 1300 pages and the audiobook is an estimate of 45 hours, not to mention I HATE audiobooks. Pray that I make it.

A book that has fewer than 1000 reviews on amazon or goodreads

Tune It Out by Jamie Sumner

A book that you think your best friend would like

Famous In Love by Rebecca Serle

I chose this because my best friend Kira is a sucker for romance (I believe..) and likes a good love triangle, Kira let me know in the comments if I screwed up...

A book about art or an artist

The Skin Collector by Jeffery Deaver

This is another stretch because the book is about a murderer who tattoos their victims with poison, so.. technically they are a tattoo ARTIST...

A book everyone seems to have read but you

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

I'm pretty sure 70% of the population has read Twilight.. I've only seen the films.

Your favourite prompt from a past POPSUGAR Reading Challenge ( I chose the first book you touch on a shelf with your eyes closed)

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell
